Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my image slightly smaller after stripping?
By default, ExifZero uses "Deep Scrub" mode, which decodes and re-encodes the image pixels using the browser's native OffscreenCanvas. This mathematically guarantees 100% metadata removal and prevents steganography, at the cost of a very slight compression change. You can disable this in the popup to use binary-level parsing instead.
Does this work on strict sites like DuckDuckGo or GitHub?
Yes. ExifZero uses a CSP-proof postMessage architecture to inject its logic into the page. It bypasses strict Content Security Policies that block older, legacy metadata extensions.
Why isn't the right-click "Strip & Download" working on some images?
If an image is heavily protected by a site's specific JavaScript framework or CORS policy, the background worker may be blocked from fetching the raw binary. In these cases, use the popup drop-zone to strip the image locally before uploading.
Does it support video and audio files?
Yes. ExifZero natively parses and strips metadata from WebP, GIF, TIFF, MP3, FLAC, and ISOBMFF containers (HEIC, MP4, MOV).
How do I prevent it from stripping metadata on a specific site?
Navigate to the site, open the ExifZero popup, and click "Add to Whitelist". The extension will immediately cease interception on that specific domain.
